Since Haiti is historically a predominantly Catholic nation, most weddings follow a normal Catholic ceremony. I am an American getting married to a Haitian man, and one thing we are doing that I'd never heard of is to appoint a "Godfather" and "Godmother" of the wedding. In Haiti these people pay for the wedding, but we are just asking them to walk in the processional and pray over us during the ceremony.
