There is no year of cat in the Chinese zodiac.
1755 was the Chinese year of the Wood Pig from the 11th February 1755 through to the 30th January 1756

because the Chinese calendar is different from the calendar used in the US
There is no year of the Cat in the Chinese zodiac. The Cat, however, is the animal used in the place of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac used in Vietnam. So the next year of the Cat (Rabbit) as of 2016 will be Jan 22, 2023-Feb 9, 2024; the year of the Yang Water Cat(Rabbit). The old legend tells that when God invited all the animals to His dinner to become part of the zodiac the rat told the cat that the dinner was on a different night so the cat missed out and that is why cats hate rats. A popular anime called Fruits Basket uses this story in it's plot line.

In the manga series Fruits Basket, Kyo was born on New Year's Eve, just before the zodiac curse was set to reset. Even though there is no official "Year of the Cat" in the Chinese zodiac, Kyo embodies the cat spirit in the story, which is why he is affected by the curse.
New Year ( January 1st)
Generally, it seems it was the year of the Water Rabbit. There are a few sources that list Rabbits as Cats instead... Either way, it was the year of a small, furry, cute animal. With a few sources calling it the year of the Cat, sometimes I've seen confusion with the previous year, the year of the Tiger. The basic difference between the personalities of the two years can be associated with the size difference between the two animals... year of the Tiger people are authoritative, emotional, courageous, and intense. On the other hand, year of the Rabbit people are popular, compassionate, and sincere.
Jan 23, 2033 starts off the next year of the Water Cat.
Year of the Cat was created in 1976-07.
Unless you count the tiger...then Nope! The cat was left off of the Chinese new year. There is an old folk tale, which being lazy, I'll recount from Wikipedia:"There is a folk story that describes how the animals were assigned to the cycle of years. A long long time ago, the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals together to assign each of them a year. When the cat heard the news, he let his friend the rat know about it and the two animals decided to go together the next day. However, the next day the rat did not wake the cat who, being a cat and loving to nap, slept through the morning. Therefore, the cat did not make it to the assembly on time and did not get a year. This is why there is no year of the cat and this is why cats hate rats. "From wikipedia.org (see Related Links below)
