I think you mean McCarthyism, named for US Representative Joe McCarthy who chaired the House Unamerican Activities Committeein the early '50's. It was a witch hunt; he saw Communists everywhere and those who would not cooperate were considered suspect if not guilty. McCarthyism is rabid anti-communism.
