The collapse of slavery in New England was much different than it was in the middle states. For New England, their economy did not depend on slave labor, so it was not a disaster economically. Meanwhile, many of the middle states did depend on slave labor. So abolition lead to serious economic problems.
The southern colonies had more fertile soil than the New England colonies, making farming particularly lucrative for them. New England had nothing that would become a cash crop that could be sustainable all year. As a result, large numbers of slaves were not be cost efficient in the northern colonies.
i believe slavery started in new England around or not to after the English landed at Plymouth rock
Actually there WAS slavery in the New England colonies - at least at first. Slavery became less useful in the New England states as it became more industrialized. Most slaves were used in unskilled labor - those who acquired significant skills found it much easier to escape slavery and set themselves up with income from their skilled labor elsewhere. Lack of demand for unskilled labor made it easier for abolitionists to get the majority to accept that slavery was reprehensible and abolish it in New England much earlier than in states with more agrarian economies and consequently more need for lots of cheap unskilled labor - which slavery provided.
New England colonies did not have slavery. Since they were first settled by Puritan's they laid the foundation for the religious, intellectual, and social order of the New England colonies. This included the use of slaves. Slavery was abolished in the New England colonies in 1774.

I believe slavery was present until the Civil War came around. Then New England was a safe haven for slaves. During the American Revolution period, slavery was present everywhere.

In New England, there was a growing opposition to slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries. Many individuals and groups in the region began to advocate for the abolition of slavery, influenced by Enlightenment ideals of liberty and equality. By the early 19th century, all New England states had abolished slavery or begun the process of gradual emancipation.
