The Khyber Pass was an important pass on the Great Trunk Road that brought merchandise from Central Asia to India. It was also the route used by invading armies to attack India.

He sent half of his army through the Khyber Pass under the leadership of his close friend Hephaestion and one of his generals, Perdiccus while Alexander and the other half traveled through the Kabul River valley and through the mountains to mop up any last resistance.
Although this limited outside contact, it is known that the early Indians used the Khyber pass through this range to communicate with other civilizations. In the future, groups would use this same pass to invade India. Two major cities of the Indus Valley Civilization have been discovered: Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.
