The Berlin Wall was knocked down because that was the end of East and West Germany. It was the end and the death of Communism. The history of the Berlin wall is tragic to say the least. One day, in the sixties, there was no wall, and all of those in Berlin could travel anywhere in the city without a wall separating them from loved ones. Overnight, a wall went up, which sent the city into panic, despair, and heartbreak. Some loving families were separated forever. Tragically, there were some valiant individuals who tried to climb over the fence and were shot in their efforts to get to the other side. They were shot and killed on sight. Other such brave souls. patiently dug a tunnel near the border so that those behind the iron curtain could escape to freedom back into West Germany, with only the clothes on their backs. One has to applaud the heroism of those who stood up to communism and to those who gave freedom and victory back to those who had lost so much when the wall had gone up. The Berlin wall came tumbling down to cheers and applause in 1991. It makes you proud to be a fellow human being when you think of the valiant souls who walked beneath the earth in a shallow crawlspace, to take parties to freedom, while armed guards ordered to shoot to kill surrounded them from up above. Such bravery brings tears to my eyes.

Both the East and West Germans. No one really wanted that wall there, so they drew all over it and they climbed over it even though the East Germans put up the wall. But no one in East German liked the wall.
The collapse of the Soviet Union made it possible for the Berlin Wall to be knocked down so people could travel between East Germany and East Berlin easily.
Because the Germany people thought they should unite and have a election.
