The British were people that abide by order while the Americans had absolutely no etiquette military wise (that is what the British thought). It happens to be that in war "etiquette" isn't needed. So while the British had their fancy strategies and ways of doing things, the Americans took that time to just get the job done by shooting and running off. It actually turned out to be more practical for them. That's one of the reasons why the Americans won.
