Why was Richard lionheart famous?

He was the son of Henry II, King of England, and eventually became King of England himself. Richard was one of the main commanders in the Third Crusade and captured the important town of Acre. Richard was renowned for his bravery and fulfillment of his vow to "take up the cross" and fight in the holy land even after he was crowned king of England upon his father's death. Richard spent most of his reign fighting in the holy land and mainly used England only for taxation purposes. He was eventually killed in France by an archer over a dispute over property.
