The first English settlers in 1633 settled at Windsor, and then in 1634 at Wethersfield. John Winthrop received permission to establish a separate colony at Old Saybrook in 1635, and the main body of settlers came in one large group in 1636.
The Connecticut colony was formed as a result of winning out over the Dutch for rights to the colony, the first English settlement was created in 1636. The colony is noted for refusing to surrender authority to the Dominion of New England.
Also, it was founded as a place for Puritans.
