The reason Connecticut was founded was to escape the government of Massachusetts Bay Colony because people thought that less power was to be given to the government and that all white men could participate in government(man that was a long sentence). Hope this helps. The founder was Thomas Hooker.

The establishment of Connecticut was largely due to the result of the Pequot War that decimated the tribal presence in the Connecticut valley and their demise led colonists from Massachusetts to settle the area.

The first English settlers in 1633 settled at Windsor, and then in 1634 at Wethersfield. John Winthrop received permission to establish a separate colony at Old Saybrook in 1635, and the main body of settlers came in one large group in 1636.
