Winston Churchill is still remembered today because he is a great leader and is a good example for others. He is seen as the Roaring Lion behind the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War, and is consistently ranked as the British public's favorite Prime Minister of the 20th century.

Winston Churchill by his own admission was a man of many faults, but he is a hero because of his steadfast refusal to give up the fight against Nazism, especially at a time when many other leaders would have given up.

He gave true leadership. He was one of a small handful of people in the British Govt. prior to 1939 who saw the gravity of the situation brewing in Germany under Hitler. Even as Neville Chamberlain (who's slogan was "Peace In Our Time") was certain Hitler could be dealt with reasonably through talking and bringing him into the British way of thinking. In September 1939 Hitler invaded Poland.

Churchill's speeches were filled with determination, hope in the British people keeping a "stiff upper lip" and honesty during Great Britain's "darkest hour". He, like the King, never left greater London during the darkest times of WW2. He visited people giving small encouraging speeches in the streets during the Blitz and was hones in that the fight they were facing was a serious one but that he believed the British people could win, could stand strong and I could go on and on. Volumes have been written about this amazing man, his life and of course those amazing speeches.
