In times before electricity they used candels to see at night. they are still being used today for that purpous in some homes, they are also said to in times of really dark nights they were used to ward off evil spirits, as well as light a way home for weary travilers. Nowdays they are sented they make your house smell fresh, and give you a relaxing glow on top of it to calm you.
