Greater India (which included modern day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Burma, Bhutan & Sri Lanka) was part of the British empire and at the end of the second world war Great Britain had huge labour shortages, so they invited people from the former colonies to come and fill the huge holes in the workforce. There was a lot of poverty in the newly formed states of India and Pakistan, so naturally a fair number of people took up the offer to come and work in the UK.

Pakistanis in WW2As a state Pakistan only came into existence with the partition of British India in August 1947. Prior to that there was no such place as Pakistan and the people who became Pakistanis were still Indians at the time of WW2 and 'unpicking' the statistics would be almost impossible. There millions of Pakistanis would have fought in WW2 but at the time they would have officially counted as part of the Indian Army.
