∙ 7y agoThe different countries had made alliances with each other, so when one was attacked the other responded with help, men, and guns. The result was a world war because all of the interconnected treaties.
The two terms have become synonymous .
They became the only remaining superpowers in the world after the war.
It is a violent conflict that manifests on numerous different levels, including the mobilization of world-wide communities to become antagonistic.
Alliances are what brought the war to such a global scale. The war started between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, but as their allied countries became involved, the war spread throughout the world. The most prominent example of this is when Britain joined the war as an ally of Belgium when Belgium was invaded by Germany.
