Franklin was appointed by the Continental Congress as an Ambassador to France. Where he spent most of the War lobbying the French government for funds and aide for the American forces. Prior to France he was in England attempting to secure rights and freedoms for the American colonists.

He was sent to Paris after July 4, 1776 and signed a treaty of alliance on Feb. 6, 1776. He was US minister in Paris until 1785, when he returned to Philadelphia. He dies on April 17, 1788.

Benjamin Franklin went to France to seek their assistance on behalf of the colonists during the American Revolution. He arrived in Paris in December, 1776 and returned to America in 1785.

The Declaration of Independence was drafted by the Committee of Five of the Continental Congress. The Committee of Five was John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

It was written by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, with changes suggested by others including Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. It was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.
