You're getting your wars mixed up. Korea started off with a conventional big bang and sustained itself that way until it ended. The war only lasted roughly 3 yrs. It did not grow from a seed (or cancer) like Vietnam did. Actually, it did escalate when North Korea invaded South Korea, when the UN became involved in the conflict to stop the war, and also when the US sent in troops and medical units to support South Korea
