The primary motivation was to obtain clear title to Oregon Territory,

To keep Russia setteling a large population into North America, and the price was right.

As a reminder, Russia had no intion of sending Russian to Russian Alaska. If they did then no sale would have been made.

William Seward thought it was a good idea, because it would remove Russia from North America and clear their claims in Oregon Territory. Alaska turned out to be rich in oil, proving that 'Seward's Folly' was a good investment.

Alaska was purchased on 30 March 1867. It was considered a highly diplomatic move for Russia and the United States to sign a treaty selling Alaska to the U.S. for $7.2 million. Alaska had been part of Russian territory since Russia had explored the region in the first half of the 17th century. The deal to sell to the US followed the discovery of gold in Alaska, and it was partly in response to the desire by Russia to protect its assets from its enemies, particularly the British, in the face of mounting debts by the Russian Empire. Selling Alaska would raise much needed funds, and it would also circumvent the threat of the US gaining hold of the territory by force.

Because without us (Alaskans) the "American" would be restricted to all you poor humans that have to live in the lower 48. (Alaska is actually around 1/5th of the entire continental US and would stretch if amgled properly from disneyworld to disneyland in the south and up to Canada in the north. They scale it down on maps. Too awesome to show in it's full size they scale it back so as not to blow your heads off)
