Could be they were still wearing wigs in the 1700's because of several issues. First being bald, they shaved heads because of lice. Of course there was always status symbols and to keep the sun from burning there scalps. They also may have been a sign of status, perhaps upper class, viewed as being more distingished and intelligant.

this question is ludicrous, but, judges DO NOT wear wigs in the present time, they may have in the past, but not anymore.
