because crewe had a Rolls Royce factory at the time (it is now Bentley) which they used to make weapons, also crewe is a railway town and is one of the only main ones ever made, this was used to move weapons throughout the country, fixed trains etc. I think there was an RAF training camp where a school is now built as well which is what Hitler would of gone for. hope this is a good enough answer for you :)
