∙ 9y agoIn general terms, the various Puritan colonizing groups that settled in Massachusetts in the 1600s selected this region for their settlements due to several inter-related factors. For one thing, initial surveys of the area had been made by explorers, which were then reviewed by English authorities for the sake of identifying suitable settlement-points. For another thing, the charters that were soon given by the authorities to various settlement-companies set aside portions of North American territory for each: the company that backed the Puritan-settlements received Massachusetts as its designated area.
