Leif Eriksson discovered greenland. ----------------------- Actually it was Leif's dad who discovered Greenland. Leif discovered North America, though really he was following a course set by an Icelander. Leif did create a settlement in North America so many say he discovered it. After all the first guy felt it was too risky to go ashore, so he was just the first recorded European to see North America, not really the same as landing and "discovering". He also discovered a stranded ship and rescued its crew of 14 people.
He didn't work any where... He voyaged... Like on the boat! That was his job! ------- He was always working, even when he went to Norway to see the King, but work really started after his Dad died in Greenland and Leif had to take over as Chieftain.
It was too far to trade with other Vikings, and his people were constantly being attacked by Native Americans.

Of course but to see history as positive or negative requires taking sides. For example it does not appear to be positive that the people in a settlement founded by Leif were exterminated by locals (which also occurred in Greenland) but if you viewed it from the point of view of those doing the killing it could be. For them they might see a little genocide as a good thing since it forestalled the arrival of other Europeans for almost 500 years. So it is for most of the facts from history.
Leif Eriksson sailed back to Norway, where his family was living at the time. Then he met the King (King Olaf the first) and he wanted Leif to go back to Greenland to teach Christianity to the people. So as he was sailing to Greenland, his ship got blown off course and ended up in North America. He was the first European to set foot on this ground but he wasn't the first to see it. An Icelandic sailor named Bjarni Herjulfsson had seen it first but didn't explore the land.

North America, though he knew it was there. His ship had been close enough to see it, well not the ship but the people on it. They chickened out and did not land. Leif did so he gets credit.
