Some chose to become Canadians, a few moved to British islands in the Caribbean and a very small number elected to go home to the United Kingdom at the end of the American Revolution.

Prior to the beginning of the war all Americans were still considered colonial by their British contemporary's. Once the war began or after its conclusion, again depending on how you chose to view history, all Colonial Americans became true Americans.

Rizal was not an American-sponsored hero because it was the Filipinos who chose Rizal as our national hero not the Americans. It is true that the Americans suggested Rizal but they were not the one who chose him.
