Art has undergone many great changes over the years. The Renaissance was one of the biggest steps in this progression. It awoke the artist's sense of creativity and opened doors for a different way of thinking. Art is all about inspiration. The Renaissance discovered this truth and artists have been utilizing it for centuries.

They were constantly competing for power so when the huge family of one city state, like the Medici's, commissioned the artwork of a great artist another major family in a different city state would do the same with another great artist. Raphael was an Italian painter. As a High Renaissance painter he combined traits from the Early Renaissance with the progress of his great contemporaries Leonardo and Michelangelo to create paintings of great beauty, clarity and balance. Titian (1490-1676) was a student of Bellini. He is considered to be the great Venetian painter. He was a supreme colorist and this could have had an impact on the Renaissance. In Venetian painting there was a greater expression of nature, always inhabited by glowing figures. His work falls at the very end of the Italian Renaissance, so it is doubtful he had any impact on the likes of Michelangelo or Leonardo.

There are many great Renaissance painters. While very similar in style, the painter with the greatest beaty is a matter of subjective opinion. For me, it would have to be Michelangelo or Da Vinci. Whihch Renaissance painters are best is a matter of personal taste and preference. I personally like the work of Cosimo de' Medici
Italian painters emphasized the beauty of the human body. They wanted to show the ideal human form and face. Leonardo and Raphael created beautiful Madonnas, athletic figures that seem to spring to life. Artists in northern Europe, on the other hand, painted with great attention to detail, even if the detail was not flattering. If a merchant had a wart on his face, a northern European artist was likely to include that wart. For the northern European painter, capturing the detail was less important than rendering the real in great detail.
