On May 20, 1932, Amelia Earhart took off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, and landed the next day in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
More specifically...In answer to the question "as written," Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic in June of 1928...as a passenger. From www.acepilots.com, "The pilots, Wilmer Stutz and Louis Gordon, were all but forgotten in the media frenzy surrounding the first woman to fly across the Atlantic." As the first answer cites above, she then went on to become the first woman to fly "solo" across the Atlantic when she accomplished that feat in 1932. Hope that helps clear things up.Another Reference Source: "Aviation; The Early Years" by Peter Almond, which is full of great photographs from the early aviation days. Pg 315 references her 1928 crossing.
