The overall commander of the Allied forces was General (later President) Dwight D. Eisenhower. The commander of the German forces was Adolf Hitler, who would not release the tanks held in reserve until it was too late to counterattack the Allied invasion forces.

However the question asked was who commanded the invasion of d day? The answer to that question is Montgomery commanded all Allied Ground troops during the D-Day.
