A lot of lines are owned by brb residuary who took over british railways boards remaining liabilities on privatisation, this extends to non operational railway yards, land etc. Also a good number of lines were sold to sustrans the cycling charity and of course a number were sold off piecemeal to landowners and some as linear greenways to local authorities. dont know whether this helps or anyone can correct me if im wrong!

Tracks and stations are owned by Network Rail, while train operations are run by private companies.
