The Communist Party is led by a Politburo Standing Committee of seven members, with Xi Jinping today as General Secretary. The Politburo it represents has 25 members. and finally there is another leadership body, the Party's Central Committee with 205 members. Although the Party Congress in theory has the highest authority, its more than 2,000 members are in fact mostly a rubber-stamp Parliament. Since the Nineties, the Army has become a formidable power center within China's leadership. Although Xi Jinping also is chairman of the Military's Central Committee he doesn't wield absolute power there ant the Party leadership very carefully takes the Military's views and wishes into consideration.
