Was Oda Nobunaga assassinated?

Nobunaga was killed by one of his generals named Akechi Mitsuhide. No one knows for sure why Mitsuhide turned on Nobunaga but there are a few theories. He was sent to work under Toyotomi (then Hashiba) Hideyoshi, another of Nobunaga's generals. Nobunaga siezed Mitsuhide's provinces for himself. There are other theories, but these are the ones that come to mind.
