Why were Jews so unpopular in the past to be maltreated and even killed simply because they were Jews?

The reason why was because they occupied a big part of Germany, which Hitler knew because he used to live among them. When his parents died he had nowhere to go and lived amongst Jews and is also to have said that he had best friends that were Jews. The only issue was in the area he was living in it was very popular for people to blame Jews for things and critic them. This is what probably shaped Hitlers hate for Jews. When he became the fuhrer, that was his first target: Get rid of all Jews because that was accustomed to. It's almost like when kids would hate black people because of the fact that they grew up with knowing that the black people were not very highly thought of. Anyways, Hitler I don't think was very stable in the brain which lead to this horrible disaster.
