Shang Yang was a Chinese statesman and philosopher who lived during the Warring States period. He is known for his role as the chief reformer of the State of Qin, implementing a series of laws and policies that strengthened central authority and centralized power. His legalistic approach influenced the later development of the Chinese legal system.

Lord Shang Yang was accused of plotting a rebellion against the crown prince. Whether this was true is unknown. However, after attempting to flee, Shang Yang was taken captive and had his body ripped apart by horse-led chariots. His entire family was executed as well. He perished of a bloody ending.
