Starting in the west and going clockwise around the Great Lakes, the tribal groups in around 1760 were:

  • Southern and Western Ojibwe/Chippewa
  • Northern Ojibwe
  • Ottawa
  • Algonquin
  • Mississauga (eastern Ojibwe)
  • Huron (Wyandot)
  • Iroquios (Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca, Mohawk, Tuscarora)
  • Delaware
  • Potawatomi
  • Kickapoo
  • Wea and Miami
  • Winnebago
  • Menominee
  • Meskaki (Fox)
  • Sauk

Earlier the Erie and other small tribes (Wenro, Neutral, Tobacco and others) had been defeated and absorbed by the Iroquois.
