β 15y agoIn the case of Auschwitz, the original camp - Auschwitz I - was the administrative centre of the whole complex of camps, though for a few months Auschwitz II was virtually independent.

β 15y agoFrom early 1942 Auschwitz operated as both. The only other camp that served as both a concentration camp and extermination camp was Majdanek.
