Pharaohs were supposed to be good rulers, however they were now buried in hidden tombs to prevent them from being robbed. The third kingdom was the New Kingdom. It lasted from 1500 BC - 1000 BC. Egypt expanded during this time, by expanding borders and becoming a world power. Pharaohs were the absolute rulers and were buried in the Valley of Kings.

The Pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom were buried in grand tombs at Thebes and in or near the Fayum, where the new capital of Dynasty 12 was located. The tombs were built of mudbrick and had an elaborate system of subterranean corridors and rooms built in stone.
