I've never tasted a Pizza in Italy, but I once ate a Pizza made by an Italian chef, and it was divine. In Italy there is a law stating that pizza dough must be left for at least 6 hours to rise/prove, before it can be used. This allows for the perfect dough to create thin, crispy pizza crusts. An authentic Italian pizza may have less topping than you're used to - less topping means the pizza cannot go soggy whilst being baked.
Food in Italy is very regional-- what's famous depends on where you are. The most famous export comes from Naples, and that is pizza. From the North there is polenta and pannetone, from Sicily there's cannoli. Mozzarella cheese is found throughout the country. There are MANY more, but I hope this helps :)

Most Italians still eat pasta daily.. It is prepared hundreds of ways all over Italy. And yes, Pizza too make Italy famous. It is still served in Trattorias and Take out windows in Italy , and sometimes prepared at home. As for ingredients that make Italy famous i would say olive oil, garlic, and olives..
