Romans were from Rome originally. They conquered many other countries and spread across the world, however.

----

The earliest settlements in Rome seem to have been on the Palatine Hill and date from the 8th century BC, which is consistent with Roman legends. The original people there were prehistoric, and there is no way of knowing where they came from. They were related to the various Italic and Latin peoples of the area, and probably moved to Italy with them.

In time the Romans absorbed into their culture other, relatively unrelated groups, such as the Etruscans and the Greeks of southern Italy, along with the Latins.

The Romans came from Rome.
