Aelexander the Great was born at 356 BCE in the capital city of Macedonia Pella [Πέλλα]. At the age of 18 he lead the cavallry of the Mecedonian army at the battle of Chaeronia [μάχη της Χαιρώνιας 338 BCE]. When his father was assassinated [at the age of 20 - 336 BCE] he was nominated King of Macedonia and prepared his army for the invasion to Persia. His campaign started at 334 BCE and he defeated the Persians at the banks of Granicus river. At 333 BCE he defeated the Persian army at Issus. In the mean while he had conquered all former greek territories occupied by the Persians in Asia Minor [Ionia - Ιωνία] and visited Egypt and the sanctuary of Amun Zeus where he was received by the priests as god, son of Amun Zeus. At 331 BCE he defeated for the third time the Persian army at the battle of Gaugamela. From there he wondered for eight years to every corner of the world known to the ancient Greeks spreading the Greek language and culture and created the first Empire of the western civilization that its borders started in the north west part of Greece - Epirus [Ηπειρος] to north western India and from the coast of Africa - Egypt [Αίγυπτος] to north east areas NW of mount Pamir [check the relevant map].
