According to one prominant theory of human expansion across the globe, all peoples of North, Central and South America migrated originally out of central Africa, across Europe and Asia, and across the ice bridge that connected northeast Asia with what is now Alaska. The migration continued southward all the way to the southernmost parts of South America. The original migrations out of central Africa probably happened roughly 100,000 to 60,000 years ago.

The Taino people are the indigenous peoples of the Bahamas, the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles. Some argue that they found their way to the islands radiating outward from the Central Amazon. Others believe they started their migration from the Andes.
