In the north of Northern America: it is generally assumed that they came from Asia 12,000 years ago by way of what is now the Bering Sea and was then a land bridge. So they normally would arrive in the north by way of Alaska and started settling when they first encountered a climate and hunting / farming opportunities that could sustain them.
