MiniDiscs were announced by Sony in 1991 and introduced on the 12th January 1992.
Very popular in Asia, they never really took of in the West, which is very strange, as I swear by them, I always have a MiniDisc running, just in case, when I am working, and they have saved my bacon a couple of times.
