The answer is that it began in 1945 and ened in 1949.

^are you really going to trust someone that can't spell "ended" correctly?

The answer is indefinite because the imperial government fell much earlier than when the Chinese Communist Party was founded. Some argue that the Revolution was in stages therefore started at the fall of the imperial government in 1911. Others argue that it began in 1927 when the civil war between the Guomindang* (Nationalist Party) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began. What had ended in 1945 was the occupation of the Japanese in China, as the Guomindang and CCP left the civil war at a standoff so they could focus on the excretion of the Japanese. The CCP were the ones that were able to remove the Japanese from the country which is one of the reasons that they, in the end, became the most popular party. After the Japanese were removed in 1945, there began the civil war AGAIN, not for the first time. The end of the revolution, which can be stated with more certainty, was in 1949 with the CCP's success over the Guomindang.

*There are different spellings for the "Guomindang"
