During World War II, on the Eastern Front, minor Soviet offensives against the Germans occurred often (if usually unsuccessfully) between 1941 and 1943. Major offensives occurred during the winter months in 1941-42 and 1942-43, with the latter resulting in a decisive victory at Stalingrad. From 1943 onward, the Soviet Union's forces engaged in general (and widely successful) offensives at different points of the front-line until achieving final victory over Germany in May of 1945.
