1) Around 2600 years ago, the Assyrians forcibly exiled the Ten Israelite tribes to points unknown. A small percentage of each of these tribes is still among us, but most of them were exiled.
2) Around 2500 years ago, the Babylonians destroyed the First Temple and forcibly exiled the remainder of Israel's population to Babylonia.
While the Jews were permitted to return to Israel (Judea) seventy years later, and thousands did so (and rebuilt the Temple), most of them remained in Babylonia, while others began to settle in North Africa, southern Europe, the Crimea, throughout the Near East and elsewhere.
3) In 68 CE, the Romans destroyed the Second Temple. The Romans did not force the Jews out of Judea in a single expulsion. Rather, the Romans expelled them from Jerusalem only; and the rest of Judea lost its Jews slowly, over a period of centuries, as conditions in Judea became too harsh. Even then, we have records of Jewish communities who lived in Judea (Palestine) during the entire period of the last two millenia.
Those Jews who left Judea went to southern Europe, North Africa, Arabia, the Near East, and (slowly) further afield (especially throughout Europe).
Israel was not a state in 1945. The land was called Palestine at that time and was populated by around 1 million Arab Christians and Muslims and a small minority of Jews (about 1% of the population). The British occupied Palestine until Jewish immigrants came in overwhelming numbers after WWII (mostly from Europe) and forced the British to leave so that the Jews could rule the land instead. 600,000 Jews under British marshal law. Germans were on a break into Egypt and on to Israel. Great concern. The British won. Many Jew escaped Europe because of the holocaust . Came to leave and developed the country. The state of Israel got its independence in 1948. The U.N suggested to split the land for both Jews and Arabs. The Jews agreed but the Arabs didn't. War burst and the Jews won. Further more, Israel is mentioned in the bible many times as the home of Jews so it goes way back to 4,000 years ago.
Jews do not worship any specific country or land. They worship God. However, Jews believe that God promised them the Land of Israel which is currently part of the State of Israel, the Palestinian Territories and extends a little bit into Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.
The Land of Israel (Ereṣ Yisra'el in Hebrew) is the section of land in the Levant on the coast of the Eastern Mediterranean whose borders are defined in the Bible. The Land of Israel is the historical and spiritual homeland of the Jews. Historically it was home to the Israelites and other Semitic tribes. It was not until the Jews had been living their for 3,000 or so years that Arabs came to the Land of Israel. The State of Israel (Medinat Yisra'el) is the country created in 1948 by Zionists like Ben-Gurion, replacing what was previously known as the British Mandate of Palestine. It is home Jews from around the world and Palestinians. It has a unique culture, a fusion of Jewish, Arab, Yiddish, and Sefardi cultures. Modern Hebrew and Arabic are the official languages.
It depends on the exile in question. Most Jews that wanted to returned to Land of Israel after the exile in Babylonia on account of Cyrus the Great. Many Jews have returned to Israel in the last 150 years from the Roman Exiling of the Jews nearly 2000 years ago. However, not all Jews have returned home after exile in both cases.

Israel (it still is the promised land for Jews).
Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people. It is the land that the Jews originally came from. Some Jews believe the land was promised to the Jews by God. Others believe a history of thousands of years binds the land to the people.
well..first off israel is also called the promised land. the main reason for this is because G-d had promised this land to the Jews. This land will always be the Jews. G-d gave his people their own land to praise him. G-d had promised the Jews that he will bring them back to their home land when the messiah comes (promised land)
