Benjamin Franklin was not the discoverer of static electricity. Although, he did give a history recorded presentation of it. Static electricity can be dated back to the 6th century BC, by Thales of Miletus, a Greek philospher. One of the first machines to artificially produce it was called "the friction generator" developed by Otto von Guericke in the 17th century. Franklin presented it again to the public in 1750.
