The middle ages lasted approx. 900 years. They began around 500 AD and lasted until 1400 AD. Historians disagree on the exact year they began. Some say it started with the barbarian Odoacer overthrowing Emperor Romulus Augustus in 476 AD. Others feel it began in 410 when Alaric sacked Rome ( I agree with this one). There is also a disagreement on when it ended. Some say it was with the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and others say with the discovery of North America in 1492. Finally, a third group thinks it was with the beginning of the Reformation in 1517 ( I also agree with the this group).
