The only time Ben Franklin was elected to a public office was October 18, 1785 when he became President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, which is something like today's office of the Governor.

Franklin was appointed (not elected) as Ambassador to France in December, 1776.

Benjamin Franklin was the first President of the American Philosophical Society. The Society was formed by Franklin in 1743 but did not establish a governing structure with a President until 1769.

Franklin was never President of the Continental Congress, the US under the Articles of Confederation, or the US under the Constitution. As governor of Pennsylvania (1785-1788) his formal title was "President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania" but he was certainly not the first to hold that office.
