The Result of the three Punic Wars was that Rome gained dominance over the western basin of the Mediterranean. Rome besieged and destroyed Carthage and sold 50,000 Carthaginians who survived the siege as slaves. She also seized all of Carthage's territories: western Sicily (by winning the First Punic War) Sardinia and Corsica (soon after the first war) Southern Spain (during the Second Punic War) and Carthage's homeland territories, Tunisia and western Libya, in the Third Punic War. Towards the end of the Second Punic War, Carthage also lost the support of their allies and next door neighbours, the Numidians of Algeria, who defected to Rome.
