Basic things needed for everyday use were manufactured. Things were made of wood, so there was a small timber and lumber industry. This and a few activities related to the production of building materials were under way while the colonies were first growing. There was some early forging done as well. Food production and anything that supported that which did not have to be "shipped in" was done in some measure.
