The Articles of Confederation maintained the sovereignty of the individual states rather than invest power in a central government. While the Congress could act as a representative of the states, as for military forces, diplomacy, and Indian relations, it could not tax them, or control trade, or otherwise overrule the actions of the states. There was no national currency, or standing army, or executive authority other than Congress (which was too unwieldy and slow for operating a day-to-day government). The Articles succeeded in providing a "common front" for the colonies, but was not a strong framework for a unified nation.
Two common features of the Founding Fathers were that they were white, and they were land owners. Among generalities, they were all by and large men of money and education, though most would not have been considered wealthy. Many of them were trained in the law. Another thing that they had in common was that all of them stood to be better off under a new Constitution rather than the existing Articles of Confederation.
While the Articles of Confederation had many weaknesses, it was able to accomplish much. It held the states together until the Constitution was written. It developed a fair policy for the development of the western lands. The states ceded their claims to the lands west of the Appalachians to the central government. This helped forge a feeling of national unity and congress under the Articles enacted laws to organize the western territories and admit new states on an equal footing with the original states. The Articles successfully negotiated a peace with Great Britain ending the Revolutionary War. Congressional departments of Foreign Affairs, War, Marine, and Treasury were established, each under a secretary. This set the precedent for the creation of the executive cabinets under the Constitution. The Articles also encouraged cooperation among the states. Though not always successful, the Articles provided that each state gave "full faith and credit" to the legal acts of the other states.
The US Constitution idea was to revise the Articles of Confederation by the government leaders. The features found in the US Constitution outline freedoms and rights of the people. The ideas and features were written to make the government more powerful by the people.
What features did the State constitutions and Articles of Confederation have in common?

The biggest impact is that they failed. It proved to the Found Fathers that an alliance of states would not work well as a single nation and that there needs to be something over the states so order can take place. Meaning that our Federal Government was created as a unifier who is able to take taxes and to level war. This united us as a nation, but it was not until the Civil War that we considered ourselves one people.

A constitutional government is a government whose rules and policies are limited by a constitution. A constitution is a written document that describes the rules and principles of a political entity.
