the "WARM GATE" WAS ONLY WIDE ENOUGH FOR 3-5 MEN TO FIGHT AT 1 TIME. THIS MEANT THE SPARTANS COULD BLOCK THE GATE AND FIGHT IN 3-5 MAN TEAMS. WHEN THE TEAM GOT TIRED, THEY RETREATED TO THE REAR AND LET THE NEXT TEAM FIGHT. THINK OF A LINE 100 LONG. YOU FIGHT FOR 3 MINUTES, THEN WALK TO THE BACK OF THE LINE. ALSO, THE GREEKS BELIEVED IN BODY ARMOR, THE PERSIANS HAD WICKER SHIELDS. THE GREEKS HAD BRONZE AND WOODEN SHIELDS, BRONZE BREASTPLATES AND LEG SHIELDS. THEY ALWAYS FOUGHT AS A UNIT. THEY EXPECTED TO BE OUTNUMBERED. LASTLY, THE SPARTANS WERE BANNED FROM Wrestling IN THE Olympics BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT STAND THE SHAME OF LOSING.

Swords and spears by the Greeks. The Persian Army was made up of armies from many subject nations, and their weapons were probably more varied, but their infantry were armed primarily with swords and spears as well. We also know that the Persian Army had large numbers of archers and bowmen.
