The Battle of New Orleans, coming to the public's attention at the same time as the news of the Treaty of Ghent, caused Andrew Jackson to become a national hero and eventually cause him to become President of the US, which ushered in the "Jackson Era" complete with "the Age of the Common Man." This would lead to more democratic developments, more citizen participation in government, more public schools, and more individuals running for office. The end of the war also marked the end of the Federalist power in New England.
