When Castro took over he closed or naturalized United States business interests. Cuba had casinos and a very active night life with regular customers coming in from the United States. The fact that he soon aligned Cuba with Russia was very disturbing to Americans. Russia so close and in the sphere of influence to the United States helped push the further thinking that it was the United States to contain communism. This thinking guided foreign policy through several presidents.
The only thing that Cuba offered that Americans really wanted was their cigars. Those became illegal to have in the US.
Yes, they wanted to overthrow Fidel Castro.
It appears that Cubans fled to US.
Castro has never been an ally of the US, he has expressed his contemp and hatred of the US on numerous occasions. During his hours long speeches he always refers to the US as a capitalist country that wants to exploit Cuba's resources. Although after the defeat of Batista, the US government offered Castro its help and good will, only to find out that he was a marxist fanatic in bed with the USSR.
Because it was such a failure. The US was supporting the attempts of Cubans to overthrow the Castro Government. When the attempt failed the US ended up looking rather foolish. It also emboldened the Castro dictatorship and its Soviet backing.
Like Iraq, the US supported Castro in the beginning.
The only thing that Cuba offered that Americans really wanted was their cigars. Those became illegal to have in the US.
He let the Russians bring nuclear weapons to Cuba.
No, just the opposite. The US tried to prevent Castro from defeating Batista, because Batista was friendly toward the US and Castro was a Communist. The US never wanted Castro to take over and this can be seen by the later "Bay of Pigs" invasion that the US sponsored but failed to back up. There are accounts that the US through the CIA planned some elaborate schemes to kill Castro after he took over.

End of 1959

It appears that Cubans fled to US.
I have heard directly from a former US Army Special Forces operative that we DID aid Castro in the early days as Batista was less and less willing to yield to US pressure. Of course Castro soon turned on us and the rest is well, history...
